SkyEurope Airlines breaks its own world record
SkyEurope Airlines, created a new world record in distance flown by a Boeing 737-700NG in commercial configuration. SkyEurope’s 10th brand new Boeing 737-700 Next Generation aircraft landed at Bratislava airport on Saturday 17 March 2007 at 4:36 p.m. after the record flyover of 9,101 kilometres without any fuel stop.
Under the command of Captain Miroslav Medzihradský, the latest addition to SkyEurope’s fleet with the registration mark OM-NGK flew the distance between Seattle and Bratislava in 10 hours and 27 minutes.
The longest documented distance flown by the Boeing 737 type until today was 8,382 kilometres on the route Seattle to Prague on 27 January 2007, also performed as a SkyEurope delivery flight. Christian Mandl, CEO of SkyEurope Airlines, came to the airport to welcome the record breaking crew personally:
- I am glad that SkyEurope was able to break its own record and delivered a brand new aircraft directly from Seattle to its home base in Bratislava. This is a great achievement of our professional flight crews.”
The Captain in command Miroslav Medzihradský was happy about the flight:
- With the help of the tailwind and the cooperation of air traffic controllers we finally made our dream come true and flew our plane from Boeing field straight home. And there was still enough fuel left after landing to fly even further!”
During 2007, SkyEurope will obtain a total of 10 brand new Boeing 737-700 Next Generation aircraft, which will be gradually introduced into service at its bases in Bratislava, Budapest, Krakow, Prague and Vienna. In the autumn, SkyEurope will become the airline with the youngest and most modern fleet in Europe with an average age of less than 1 year. The new aircraft benefits from fuel-efficient engines and blended winglets technology, making its operation both economical and environment-friendly. The new Boeing 737 is equipped with 149 elegant leather seats and features a special espresso and cappuccino maker allowing SkyEurope to propose genuine Italian Illy coffee on board.
