  Air Berlin:

First Flightschool students to gain new pilot licence

Friday, 13th November 2009, Andreas Bellé, Felix Laaß, Lorenz Krimmel and Leo Wiegand were the first students to obtain their MPL (Multi-Crew Pilot  Licence) that meets the new international standard.

The four Air Berlin  Flightschool graduates received their certificates at the airline’s headquarters  in Berlin from Ralf Nagel, Air Berlin’s Head of Training, and Christian Käufer,  Head of Training at TFC GmbH, our partner flying school. The four young pilots will be joining the Air Berlin Group as co-pilots.

The multi-crew pilot licence is tailored to the requirements of modern airlines. From the very beginning prospective pilots are trained for working in the cockpit of a modern airliner. This means that during their course, special attention is paid to teamwork and to threat and error management in a multi-  crew cockpit.

In February 2009 the Air Berlin Flightschool was the first aviation school in Germany to be approved by the German Federal Aviation Office to train  students for the multi-crew pilot licence. The school was founded in 2007, and  is also one of the first aviation schools in the world to offer this new training  standard.

Air Berlin is Germany’s second largest airline. The Group has been listed on the stock exchange since May 2006. Last year Air Berlin carried a total of 28.6 million passengers
worldwide. The company currently has about 8,200 employees. In 2008 alone Air Berlin
received more than 10 awards for service and quality. With an average age of just 4.6 years, Air Berlin has one of the newest fleets in Europe. The airline’s modern aircraft are extremely  fuel-efficient and so provide a lasting contribution to the reduction of aviation emissions.
