  Mariehamn, Åland:

Viking Line sells M/S Isabella
Viking Line has sold MS Isabella to Tallink Silja. The ship operated the Turku-Stockholm route until Viking Grace replaced it in January 2013

The sale of M/S Isabella is part of Viking Line’s long-term strategy. Already in 2009, in the early planning of M/S Viking Grace, a sale of Isabella was included in the financial plan. M/S Isabella has been up for sale since the summer of 2012. International buyer candidates also showed interest in the vessel, and now the vessel has been sold to TallinkSilja.

- The sale of Isabella has been part of our long-term strategy and it has now become reality. For our company, the Helsinki-Tallinn route is extremely significant, and the aim is to find yet more sustainable options for the development of Baltic Sea travel in future, says Viking Line Managing Director Mikael Backman.

M/S Isabella operated the Turku-Stockholm route until Viking Grace replaced it in January 2013. Since then, M/S Isabella replaced M/S Amorella for a few weeks when Amorella was in dock, and now M/S Isabella has been in Turku waiting to be docked. Once it began to seem improbable that the sale of the vessel would take place before the summer, Viking Line’s plans were to temporarily bring M/S Isabella onto the Helsinki-Tallinn route for the summer season of 2013. This back-up plan has now become redundant with the sale.

- It is, without question, unfortunate that the time of the sale took place so very near to the beginning of operations. This is also, naturally, very regrettable for our own staff who have given their valuable input towards the planning and implementation of this summer season, Mikael Backman summarises.

This morning, Viking Line Managing Director Mikael Backman has held a staff briefing on this issue. Viking Line will be in touch with all of its customers who have booked tickets on the vesssel. Viking Line apologises for any possible inconvenience to its customers.
